EDENS, the South Carolina-based shopping-center operator and developer, officially broke ground Wednesday on the 11-acre development of a site adjacent to its South Bay plaza in Dorchester. Mayor Marty Walsh was the guest of honor.
The project, which the city approved in May, is immense in scope. To wit, it will include:
- 475 studio, 1-BR, 2-BR, and 3-BR apartments, including 62 more affordable “workforce” housing units. Tenants will have access to amenities such as a roof deck, a pool, and a gym.
- a 130-room hotel
- 113,000 square feet of retail, including restaurants. Those eateries will include a Wahlburgers, which native Dot sons Mark, Donnie, and Paul Wahlburg own.
- a 12-screen AMC Theatre with Imax and AMC Prime Technology
- 1,094 new parking spots
- community space for events such as farmers markets, craft shows, charity drives, and festivals
EDENS expects to start rolling out the development by the end of 2017, with everything opening by the summer of 2018. Stay tuned.
