The Dorchester Historical Society will present a new Dorchester house tour from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 12, highlighting a dozen homes and carriage barns on Ashmont Hill.The recently restored 1892 Parish of All Saints, Ashmont, also will be open.“Homeowners will be on hand to talk about the ways they have preserved, restored and transformed their 19th century houses for 21st century living,” said Earl Taylor, society president.Dorchester newel postThe houses represent varying architectural styles, including mansard cottages, built in the 1870s, the Stick Style of the 1880s and the Queen Anne, Colonial Revival and Shingle styles of the 1880s and 1890s.The lead sponsor for the event is Edens Inc., which is planning to develop a pedestrian-oriented neighborhood next to its South Bay shopping center.
