All four of Quincy’s MBTA stations have work proposed for them.By Sean Philip CotterThe Patriot LedgerQUINCY – Renovation of the MBTA’s Wollaston station is expected to begin in the second half of this year.The T plans to come before Quincy’s city council in the next several weeks to present updates about the project, spokesman Joe Pesaturo said.The T, which finalized renovation plans in September, intends to put the project out to bid this spring, and the work would begin in the fall, Pesaturo said Friday via email.Wollaston is the only heavy-rail T station that is not handicapped-accessible.

Related contentT prepares for work on Quincy Adams, Braintree garagesJanuary 17, 2017Show more…”Correcting that deficiency is the most motivating factor behind this important project,” Pesaturo wrote.The Wollaston work will include a new station building, bridge, elevators and wheelchair ramps, drainage upgrades and other site improvements.Quincy has four T stations, all on the Red Line: North Quincy, Wollaston, Quincy Center and Quincy Adams.

Substantial work at all four has been proposed.In the coming months, the MBTA plans to seek bids from companies interested in the job of repairing the Quincy Adams garage.The T is in the engineering phase of figuring out how to knock down the derelict Quincy Center garage. The T and the city would then encourage residential or commercial development there. The mayor’s office expects to announce a demolition timeline this year.

The T plans to lease out its North Quincy station space to a developer, who would build 600 high-end apartments and 50,000 square feet of commercial space on what is now the station parking lot. The proposal has yet to come before local permitting boards.Chris Walker, a spokesman for Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch, acknowledged Friday that these projects would cause some disruptions. He said the goal is to minimize them.”That’s something that we have made sure the T is cognizant of,” Walker said.
