Quincy’s West of Chestnut apartment complex to officially openIt’s part of a much larger project in Quincy Centerby Tom Acitelli Oct 12, 2016, 10:00a tweet share pin RecWest of Chestnut/Gate ResidentialThe 169-unit West of Chestnut apartment complex in Quincy’s Quincy Center will hold an official opening Wednesday evening. The invitation-only event featuring Boston multi-media artist Yu-Wen Wu marks a major milestone not only in that particular complex’s evolution—construction commenced in 2015 and pre-leasing began in February—but a potential milestone in a much larger project for the area: West of Chestnut is supposed to be just the beginning of a transformative development in Quincy Center that could add hundreds more apartments and thousands of square feet of retail—all conveniently located near a Red Line stop.See how this is supposed to go? Lead developer Gate Residential wants the project to be one of those all-in-one-affairs, with attractions designed to capture prospective tenants’ interest (and money) as thoroughly as the amenities of the development itself might. To that end, retail at West of Chestnut includes Japanese fusion restaurant Fuji, South Shore burger favorite KKatie’s Burger Bar, and OrangeTheory Fitness studio. The strategy appears to be working. Of the 169 apartments available, 70 percent have been leased, according to the developer. The remaining 1- and 2-BRs at West of Chestnut are asking $2,100 to $2,800 a month.
