New York-based members-only association will take two floors and draw design inspiration from the region

The Wing, the women-focused, members-only association that started in Manhattan in October 2016, plans to open its first Boston location in the spring of 2019.

The company is taking more than 10,500 square feet on two floors at 699 Boylston Street in Back Bay. The space will include a seasonal terrace, showers, lockers, conference rooms, phone booths, a food-and-beverage area, and a lactation room.

What’s more, The Wing’s Boston wing is due to have wraparound floor-to-ceiling windows with city and Charles River views. In general, the company says that its new space will draw inspiration for its design from the region’s past and present, including from Boston-area women’s colleges and writers such as Phillis Wheatley and Sylvia Plath.

The company said it could not yet share renderings or photos of the Back Bay floors. Above is shot of a space in San Francisco, which, along with Washington, D.C., and New York, host all of the current Wing sites. Besides Boston, others are planned in Seattle, Chicago, West Hollywood, Toronto, and London.

Boston seemed a natural choice for The Wing’s expansion, according to the company. It had sought feedback from members about where it should open next—Boston was near the top of the list.

For the spring 2019 launch, The Wing is partnering with indy bookstores such as Brookline Booksmith and Papercuts JP, which will carry special Wing bookmarks as well as what the company is calling “golden tickets” entitling their locators to prizes such as free memberships.
