Tags: Roundtrips via two companies from Boston Harbor to the East River could start as soon as summer 2019
Two companies, Cape Air and Tailwind Air, are close to securing the necessary Federal Aviation Administration and Coast Guard okays to operate seaplanes during warmer months between Boston Harbor and New York City’s East River.
What’s more, both companies say they could be running a few roundtrip flights a day between the metropolises by the summer of 2019. That reality would cap years of speculation about seaplanes as a quicker go-to between Boston and Gotham.
Tickets would not be cheap—both Cape Air and Tailwind estimate that one-way tickets would cost $300 to $400 each, per the Globe’s Jon Chesto—but would be geared toward business travelers anyway. Companies and not individuals then would probably be buying most of the tickets.
Also uncertain: Where in Boston Harbor the planes would board and deplane. It would likely be somewhere along the South Boston waterfront. As for New York, it would be at the end of Manhattan’s East 23rd Street. Stay tuned.
